Talent Referral

For those of you who are wondering what a Talent Referral is, it’s basically what it says on the tin... an opportunity for our staff to refer talent. We here at CCANZ have the notion that if someone works for us then they must be pretty awesome. I know it sounds a bit conceited but it’s true, if we hired them then they will have gone through the ringer, compared and contrasted to hundreds of candidates, and we’ve come to the conclusion that they are the best around, ergo, they must be at least a little bit awesome.  If you follow our logic, if they are awesome (and we’ve established that they are) they probably knock about with other awesome people or know other awesome people or are related to other awesome people (as much as it may pain them to admit it). To take this a further step, if you are reading this and you know people here at CCANZ, then guess what? You’re probably a bit awesome yourself and we probably want to talk to you.

The Process

This used to be a convoluted, difficult process where forms had to be filled in triplicate, with initials, carbon copies and wax seals. OK, maybe not that bad but we have simplified it. When you apply for a role with us on cokecareers.co.nz keep an eye out for the question “Are you a Talent Referral from a current staff member at CCANZ?” Click yes and then provide us with the name and employee number of your awesome friend. That’s it. Job done. Easiest money you ever made!

The Rules

Right this is the bit where we lay it down and get all bossy on you.

If you are referring a candidate:

  • You may not refer anyone for a job that you are personally recruiting for. If you are the hiring manager, hiring manager's manager or anyone who can influence the recruitment process then I am sorry that's just cheating and you get nothing, otherwise our recruiters would be millionaires.
  • The candidate must stay for at least 6 months for you to be eligible for the full payment. You get half on them starting and half if they stick around.
  • The candidate must identify you at the time of application as their referrer. Not fair if you find out late in the piece that a friend of your cousin is starting with us and you fancy a little bit extra in your back pocket. You didn't earn it, you're not getting it.
  • If you are unsure of your eligibility call the Recruitment team, we'll put you straight.

If you are being referred:

  • Your referrer must be a current (permanent, full time) staff member of CCANZ. We can't have everyone referring everyone, it would be chaos (and expensive)!
  • You must note the Name and Employee number of your referrer at the point of application. Also you have to actually know them, no hunting down someone at CCANZ just to split the spoils.

success stories
  • angela sarah

    Sarah-Jane Puch / Angela Martin

Sarah-Jane is our new Corporate Counsel (Lawyer). We lured her away from a big fancy pants Law Firm in the city. I say we, actually Angela got the ball rolling. Angela is one of our National Key Account Managers. She met Sarah-Jane at a party about five years ago and the two have been firm friends since. More than just friends, Angela had also asked her for legal advice in the past (isn’t it awesome to have a lawyer friend?) so she knows that Sarah-Jane knew her legal stuff. Given this, when the call went out that we needed some quality legal advice ourselves (albeit on a permanent basis), Angela immediately thought of Sarah-Jane and set to wooing her on our behalf with talk of a free carpark and free COKE. We did the rest with talk of an amazing team, fantastic work environment and better coffee than she would find in the City. She said yes and we’ve been able to provide her with all three and much, much more. We provided Angela with a nice wee Talent Referral bonus.

  • hayden tom

    Tom Heywood / Hayden Townsend

If you’ve got this far into cokecareers, it probably safe to assume that you have read about Hayden Townsend on the Career Paths page. As is obvious from his bio we think he’s pretty great, don’t tell him to his face though, he’ll get embarrassed. Anyway, Hayden has a mate from school, let’s call him Tom (it’s his name so we might as well). Hayden thought that Tom would be a good fit for the role of Territory Sales Manager in our South Auckland team. He’s friendly, hard working and outgoing, what more could we want. So Hayden referred Tom to us, we valued his opinion but wanted to see for ourselves so we put him through his paces in a Sales Assessment Centre we run from time to time. We made him work in a group and pitch a new drink to some fairly senior Sales Managers. We interviewed him, talked about his past and his future. Basically grilled him. Anyway, long story short at the end of the process we agreed with Hayden, Tom was Coke material.

We hired Tom and gave Hayden $1,500. Win, win, win (we are the third win, we got a new TSM and he’s awesome).

  • pip chloe

Chloe Van Dragt / Pip Staples

Pip works in People and Performance looking after the Sales team from an HR point of view. When she heard that we needed a Personal Assistant for one of our National Sales Managers she, being the clever forward thinker that she is, posted it to her Facebook page. Chloe and Pip have been mates since 3rd form, they’ve grown up together and now they are both professionals out there in the working world together. Chloe saw Pip’s status update, “liked” it and then commented that perhaps she was just the person we were looking for. Pip told us, we interviewed her (along with a few others) and decided that yes, Chloe was the person we were looking for. Chloe started a few weeks ago now and by all accounts loves the challenge, the pace and pretty much everything else about the job. Pip loves the $1,500.

So the moral of this story is that jobs can come from anywhere, keep your eyes open, don’t dismiss your friend’s updates and if you are reading an ad in the paper, the job has probably just been filled by someone who isn’t on your friend list.

  • toni meagan

    Toni Zinzan / Meagan Grey

Toni Zinzan is what you might call a repeat offender when it comes to Talent Referrals, she’s always got her eye out for COKE talent and more often than not she gets it absolutely spot on. The only problem is that she lives in a small town and may soon be running out of candidates. One of the more recent stamps on her loyalty card is Meagan Grey. Meagan is about to marry a good friend of Toni’s and Toni figured if you’re good enough for my friend then you’re good enough for COKE. Toni told us about Meagan, we put her through an assessment centre and she came through with flying colours. We hired Meagan, stamped Toni’s card and put a few extra dollars in her back pocket.

Meagan is now a Territory Sales Manager in our North West Team and doing famously. Constantly learning new things and meeting new people. All because her fiancés mate thought she was awesome and needed one more stamp to get her set of steak knives. If only we could get Toni to move somewhere with more people we’d be sorted.

Remember what they say, birds of a feather get jobs at COKE.
