where you could work

Here at CCANZ we don't just recruit for the job at hand. We recruit for careers. We want you to build, grow, develop you career with us. After all, CCANZ is for life, not just for Christmas.

A lot of companies say things like this (except for the Christmas bit) but can't always back it up. We can and do on a regular basis. Currently we have in the region of 1000 people up and down the country planning, batching, juicing, recruiting, selling, strategising, training, driving, canning, packing, marketing, printing, stacking, fork hoisting, quality assuring, managing, leading, performing, organising, testing, promoting and merchandising... you get the picture.

In most organisations you are limited to what you can do with your career, where you can go. With CCANZ we look at your skills and experiences as a whole and try understand what YOU want to do with YOUR career, where YOU want to go. If it works for us as well then fantastic, lets do it. Don't get me wrong, if you want to be a Demand Planner and you have no concept of the Supply Chain and don't know your Excel from your Outlook we're probably not going to endorse that move. However, if you have legitimate skills, we're happy to think outside the square.

So, what can I do? Where could I go? Good questions both. Let's have a look at some examples of people who have come into CCANZ, created and climbed their own personal career ladders.

career paths
  • Jenn Liow

Jenn came to us in 2005 where he started as a Strategic Support Planner, responsible for the distribution of finished goods, and buy in of imported finished goods. Here, he was also responsible for generating and analysing the weekly and monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) reports.

A year later he moved into the Demand Planning team, still in S&OP, and became the Senior Demand Analyst where he was responsible for two Demand Planners. This team looked after the forecasting of finished goods for CCANZ. Their job was to liaise with Sales, gather market intelligence and compile a forecast that the rest of the S&OP team used to plan, schedule and procure finished goods and raw materials.

In 2008, Jenn moved across to Requirement Planning, where he still holds the position of Requirements Planning Manager. In this role he now looks after a team of planners that use the Demand Plan (sales forecast) to create a production, distribution, and procurement plan to ensure that we have the right quantity of finished goods in the right place at the right time. The right place being your hand. The right time, whenever you're thirsty.

  • Nicole Bridge

Nicole started with CCANZ in our National Contact Centre where as Customer Service Representative she delivered amazing service to customers the length and breadth of the country. After 18 months in our Award Winning contact centre Nicole decided to put her skills to the test out on the road where she became a Sales Representative in our Convenience and Leisure channel, firstly as a relief and then in a route of her own. One quick year later Nicole moved across to the HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants and Cafe's) team expertly servicing (there's that word again) hospitality customers (and that one) across Auckland. Recently Nicole has taken her customer service and sales skill to the next level being seconded into a Regional Key Accounts Managers role where she continues to ensure that our customers know that they are our first, last and only priority whether it's on the end of a phone line or in the boardroom.
  • Wayne Roff | Manufacturing Manager

Wayne is what you might call a stalwart here at CCANZ. He's also a great example of hard work and continuous learning can do for your career. Wayne joined us back in 1994 as a Machine Operator in our Auckland CSD (Carbonated Soft Drink) Plant. After a year he moved up to Foreman on two of our production lines. Two years later he stepped up to a Team Leader role, another two years and he was promoted to Line Leader. After three more years and a stint helping out in our Christchurch CSD Plant, Wayne was ready for the next step, Group Leader, managing a team of Team Leaders (not always an easy task). Most recently as further proof that hard work, knowledge and let's face it, talent pays off Wayne has been promoted to the role of Manufacturing Manager of the very same Auckland CSD plant he started his career as a Machine Operator in 16 years ago. Not bad aye.
  • Hayden Townsend

Hayden's is a short bio as he hasn't been with us that long, but it is an inspirational one. Not in the way that will make you live your life better, but in the way that shows that a little persistence and hard work can pay off in spades. Hayden started his time with us as a Merchandiser (admittedly so did a couple of very highly regarded Sales Managers back in the day). Merchandising wasn't for him however, merely a means to an end. After some time making sure that shelves across the country were well stocked and forward facing he applied for a role as a Relief Sales Representative and got it over a number of candidates with more "time in the game". Shortly after, Hayden went for a Territory Sales Representative in our Convenience and Leisure channel and got it. Again, over candidates with more "time in the game". Again, hard work and persistence has paid off. That was March. Who knows where he'll be this time next year. Check back to cokecareers.co.nz and we'll let you know.

  • Lee Thorburn | National Sales and Operations Planning Manager

This is a tale of seizing an opportunity and running with it (in great shoes). Lee first joined us at CCANZ in 2004 as a Contract Project Manager. Working here for a few months as a contractor gave her all the impetus she needed when offered a permanent role as NPD (New Product Development) Projects Manager. From here she stepped into the shoes of the Commercialisation Manager, taking over the role in an acting capacity (though to be fair, she brought her own shoes, stunning ones they were too).

Two years after she first joined us, Lee was persuaded to take a complete change of direction with the role of Manager of the newly formed Sales and Operations Planning team. This wasn't necessarily the path she had chosen for herself but Lee and her fabulous shoes trod it, dauntlessly, and found themselves with another, even more successful career. Four years and a number of additions later, including the Inwards Goods Team, Innovations Team and about 40 pairs of shoes, Lee is managing one of the most pivotal functions in our organisation, without which you might find it very difficult to get your hands on a cold Coke just when you need it (regardless of your shoes).

  • Tyrone Growden | District Sales Manager

Tyrone started working for Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia about ten years ago as a Business Development Rep. Two years later he saw the light and moved back to NZ where he picked up his career as a Territory Sales Representative in our Convenience and Leisure team. Another two years and he moved back into Business Development, this time in our HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurant and Cafe's) channel. Pretty soon he was snapped up by the Regional Key Accounts team where he looked after Auckland Tertiary Sites, Foodservice chains and Auckland stadiums for four years. Since then he's moved in to his current role of District Sales Manager in our Grocery Channel where he leads and inspires (on a daily basis) a team of young go getting TSR's intent on make sure your supermarket shelves are stocked with Coke, Pump, L&P and the like.
  • Sriram Balu

After starting his NZ career with one of our competitors (who shall remain nameless) Sriram "saw the light" and joined CCA in 2007 in the newly created role of "Continuous Improvements Coordinator". Simply put, his primary role was liaising between the Operations and Quality departments to develop and embed quality focus in to our processes.

Soon Sriram was involved in two main projects involving the commissioning of the new syrup room and introducing alcohol capability to production where his previous automation experience helped him no end. Around this time the IMS manager had to go on maternity leave, and Sriram had the opportunity to take over the Systems Management role and also the Environmental role. The key highlight was being able to participate in the sustainability ventures and also compete in the Massey university survey for Corporate Sustainability, in which we were awarded 2nd ranking in NZ.

Many projects and many, many achievements later Sriram is still a linchpin, operating between Operations and Quality here at "The Oasis", a site that he (and many others) consider "an Oasis of Opportunity".

  • Fiona Wakelin

After an upper quartile (statistically speaking) career with a world leader in market data collection and analysis, Fiona joined CCANZ in 2004 as a Trade Marketing Analyst in our Convenience and Leisure channel. Here, her role was to provide analytical support to a team of six account managers. Providing the numbers to back up the talk so to speak. Less than two years later she found herself in the role of Customer Business Manager where she was tasked with managing customer relationships in our Petro channel looking after two of the biggest names in the business. Following on from here, Fiona joined the Grocery channel in the role of Category Development Manager, identifying business opportunities and developing strategies and key initiatives for our Grocery customers. Most recently Fiona has moved into a management role as a Trade Marketing Manager, again in our Grocery channel where she now looks after a team of Category Development Managers.
